# 2 Flat bottom Dutch oven. Traditional iron cookware is slightly modified to be useful for cooking both the old way and the new. This flat-bottomed potjie cauldron has a surprisingly large capacity and durable foundry construction. The squat belly of the pot is ribbed with concentric rings and usefully labeled flat potjie 2. A well-fitting lid and arched, free-moving handle enhance the pot’s utility. This sturdy flat bottomed kettle will turn your kitchen into an old-fashioned cooking sanctuary-just like your grandmother had. Unlike your Grandmother’s kettles these are newly manufactured and coated with a baked on vegetable oil to preserve the cast iron. Seasoning these cooking pots in the Old Fashioned Way with a good shortening or vegetable oil will blacken them naturally over time and with used. This will also make the pot stronger and more elastic (yes, cast iron can become brittle), resulting in a more beautiful pot like cast iron from the old days. Seasoning instructions are included. Simple – and makes fantastic tasting meals. The round shape allows heat to distribute evenly around the sides and maintain liquids at the lowest point to keep food from burning. Cast iron is also a common choice for searing or frying, with it’s excellent heat diffusion and retention making it a good option for long-cooking stews or braised dishes, it has the ability to maintain heat over an uneven heating source such as a campfire. A great option for long-cooking stews, soups, beans, chili, and many other foods including cornbread, and cobblers. Quality Cast iron seems to be expensive but anyone who has used it. Knows the value, how it is very heavy and almost indestructible and will last for generations. Made from pure gray cast iron no fillers or pot metals. Ask about our tripods! Tracking will be uploaded as soon as we have it. International Buyers – Please Note. What size potjie do I need? Potjie pots and Potjie flats both use the same numbering/sizing systems but both have different capacities/volumes. Both are close but not the same. By using this formula you will have an idea on the size best suited for your needs. If in doubt go up one size, its always better to have more than not enough. Using 10-14 ounces of meat per person. You determine the amount of meat by multiplying the total number of guests (without Side Dishes) by 10/14 ounces of meat. This formula will help to ensure that all of your guests will have more than enough to eat, with or without Side Dishes.
